- [Instructor] Let us start with the Overview of Android. Android happens to be a 30 billion-dollar industry for its parent company Google. There are over two billion worldwide users who are interacting with Android operating system via their mobile devices, tablet PCs, smartwatches or even television screens. It comprises of over 88% of the world's total mobile users. Let us go over some basic features of Android. Android OS and its entire project is managed by Google. It is available as an open-source operating system. It is basically a modified lightweight version of the Linux kernel where all non-essential drivers like printers, ethernet cables, USB, etc. are removed to give it a lightweight habitat. Android is versatile in its usage, as it can be seamlessly used for all varieties of smart devices, like mobile phones, tablet PCs, smart TVs and even your wearable devices.
