So far, I’ve described how to use fragments to manage multiple screens, to define and present dialogs to the user, and how to use them with a ViewPager container. Fragments are also used in shared preference screens - those lists of options that you can present to let the user to manage the app’s settings. Like dialogs, fragments are important here for how they’re managed by the application framework. By wrapping your preferences interface in a fragment, it can survive orientation and other configuration changes at runtime.

In my beginning application, my main activity class…opens this menu, main menu dot XML.…It has two items, each with and on click event handler,…and those point back to methods in the main activity class,…on settings click, and on test pref click.…When the user clicks the first item,…I will open a settings screen and let the user set a value,…and when they choose the second item,…I will test that preference.…In the resources folder, I've already included a file…in the XML subfolder, named preferences dot XML.…
