Create and deploy an Android widget: Android Development Essential Training: Design a User Interface

A widget is a component that appears on an Android device’s home or lock screen. A new Android device has access to lots of different widgets that are implemented by Google apps themselves. To create your own widget, first, create a layout file that defines the widget’s appearance. Next, create a Java class that updates the widget and provides it with data at runtime. Then, register the widget and register that file in the app manifest.
