Build a simple app with Kotlin

- [David] So you want to build mobile apps for Android. I'd like to welcome you to this first course in a series devoted to software developers who want to learn about the fundamental tools for building Android apps. My name is David Gassner. I've been developing software and teaching software development skills for over 30 years. Android development tools and techniques keep on evolving as Google creates new and better ways to make app building faster and easier. You'll need some basic tools and skills and I'll describe them during this series. You'll be developing with Android Studio, a free integrated development environment from Google that's based on IntelliJ IDEA, community edition from JetBrains. You'll develop your apps with a mixture of programming languages including XML for app configuration and either Java, Android's original programming language or Kotlin, a newer language that's designed to work in may Java-based environments. When your app is complete, you'll be able to distribute it through Google's Play Store but you'll also have the option of selling or giving it away through other app stores such as Amazon and at the end of this course I'll offer some suggestions for other courses you can watch to keep on building your Android app development skills.
