- [Joe] The Android operating system provides a rich set of features for your app to use when communicating with the user. It's important, however, to choose the right tool for the job to ensure that the user gets the best possible experience when using your app. Hi, I'm Joe Marini, and I've been building software professionally for companies like Microsoft, Google, and Adobe for 30 years. In this course, we'll take a look at four popular options for communicating with an app's users. We'll start by learning about Toast messages and how they employed to give users short, casual information. Then we'll move on to Snack Bars, and see how they are similar to Toast messages but add the important ability for the user to execute an action when they are displayed. After that, we'll investigate dialogs and see how they are used when your app needs the user to perform an action before your app can proceed. Finally, we'll wrap up by learning about Android notifications and how they can be used to alert the user about a variety of different events in your app and the various ways in which they can be displayed to and interacted with by the user. The best Android apps make interaction with the user as smooth as possible. Let's make sure that your app is one of them by getting started with Android, Communicating with the User.
