This course is accompanied by exercise files that you can use to follow along with the demonstrations. The exercise files are organized by chapter. Within each chapter, you'll find a number of subfolders, one for each video, each organized as an Android Studio project. I'll describe how to open these projects in Android Studio, and also show which components of the Android SDK you'll need to have installed on your development computer.

- [Voiceover] This course is accompanied by exercise files that you can use to follow along with the demonstrations onscreen. I've copied the exercise files to my desktop, but you can place them anywhere on your hard disk. The exercise files are organized by chapter. Within each directory you'll find sub-directories for each video, and within those you'll find directories that are organized as Android Studio projects. You can recognize these project directories by the inclusion of files with the extension .iml, and sub-directories named gradle and app.
I'm working with Android Studio 2.1. In order to open any of these projects, go to the Welcome screen and choose Open an existing Android Studio project. You can then press command-D on Mac, or control-D on Windows to jump to your desktop directory. If that's where you placed the exercise files, then you can drill down to the directory you want to work with, select the directory that has the icon indicating that it's an Android Studio project, and then click OK to open the project.
The first time you open any of these projects, it might take a few minutes while Android Studio downloads certain required components. And if you're working with a version other than Android Studio 2.1, you might be prompted to upgrade your gradle plugin. Follow those prompt and accept all of the upgrades that are offered, and that will get your version of the project up to speed with your version of Android Studio. Once you've opened the project, you can find the files in the Project window, and you'll see that by default you're using a scope called Android.
This scope filters the files and directories. If you want to see all of the files and directories in the project, use the Project scope, and then you'll see the files and directories as they're actually organized on disk. So that's how to open each of these projects. You can run these projects using either physical devices, or virtual devices that you use with the Android emulator, and I'll describe the emulator that I'm using in a later video.
