Declare frame animations in XML: Animations and Transitions in the Android SDK

A frame animation, also sometimes called a drawable animation, is based on traditional animation techniques. You start with a collection of image files, typically in PNG or JPG format. You then define your animation in an XML file, and launch it with a couple of lines of Java code. As with View animations, Frame animations have been available since the earliest days of Android app development.
