- [Presenter] If you're thinking about using the Amazon cloud for backups or disaster recovery, then it's extremely important to be familiar with the concepts of regions and availability zones. Regions correspond to Amazon data center locations. Amazon has data centers all over the world, Just here in the United States, for example, Amazon has data centers located in Ohio, Oregon, California, and Virginia. So when you create a resource in the Amazon cloud, and you're asked to choose a region for that resource, what you're really doing is you're choosing which data center the resource is going to reside in. Now, availability zones work a little bit differently from resources because availability zones exist within a resource or within an Amazon data center. What Amazon has done is they've created isolation boundaries within each one of their data centers. And each one of these isolation boundaries is treated as an availability…
