An introduction to cold failover

- [Brien] There are many different ways to perform a cold failover. The method that you'll use largely depends on what type of resource it is that you're trying to failover. So for the purpose of this course, I'm going to show you how to perform a cold failover of a virtual machine instance. There are three main steps in this process. The first step is to create an Amazon machine image, or Amie, of a virtual machine. Now this has to be done before the failure ever happens. Then when the failure occurs, what you're going to do is to create a brand new virtual machine from that Amie that you created earlier then from there, all you have to do is to configure the DNS records to point to that new virtual machine.
