- [Instructor] If you're looking to store and manage data in the cloud, you've come to the right place. Amazon Web Services is home to a wide array of options to suit just about any data storage job you can throw at it from file storage to relational data to NoSQL-style documents and objects. In AWS, you have many options as to the kind of storage available to you. There's object storage supported by S3, Amazon's oldest most durable service. Block storage via Elastic Block Store, the easy way to provision drive capacity for EC2 instances.
Relational databases courtesy of RDS, Amazon's managed Relational Database Service. You have NoSQL courtesy of DynamoDB and data warehousing via Redshift, though the last one is outside the scope of this course. When you use AWS storage and data management services, not only do you gain access to all these storage types in one place, but you also take advantage of AWS' high level of service and reliability. You get incredible durability particularly with objects stored in S3.
High availability, a built-in feature of many AWS storage services. Automated backups, automated as with RDS Relational Databases or able to be automated as with Dynamo or EBS. Managed service, we don't have to worry about running the underlying servers or configuring and maintaining platforms. And seamless encryption at rest, as seen as S3, EBS, and more. Think of the time, research, and resources that can go into making your homegrown or on-premises storage achieve these features and you'll start to see why cloud storage particularly in AWS is so compelling.
I do want to give you a heads up about which AWS services are not in scope for this series. The data analytics tools such as Elastic Map Reduce, Kinesis, and Quicksight will not be discussed.
