What is DKIM and Sender Policy Framework (SPF)?

- People have trust issues with email. Imagine that you put a letter in your mailbox. There's nothing stopping someone from changing the return address on it. After all, what are the chances the mail carrier will check the return address? The same thing can happen with email. And you can bet the spammers capitalize on that. But, there are resolutions to this issue. DKIM or DomainKeys Identified Mail and SPF or Sender Policy Framework are two more recent methods used by the mail servers. Essentially, they verify that the sender is actually the sender. Amazon had us add a series of DKIM records to the DNS records for our domain name. DKIM works by using public and private key cryptography. Which is similar to how an https website will encrypt your web traffic and credit card numbers going two and from a web server. A private key is generated on the server. Which Amazon already did for us behind the scenes. And a public key is also generated which is paired to the private key. The public…
