VM migration requirements

- [Brien] As you prepare to migrate virtual machines to the AWS Cloud, there are a few things that you're going to need to do to make sure that your virtual machines are ready for the migration process. First, you're going to need to temporarily disable any antivirus software or security software that's running inside of the virtual machine. You can re-enable the software once the migration process has completed. You're also going to need to detach physical or virtual CD-ROM disks, DVD-ROM disk, or Blu-ray disks. Also, you're going to need to make sure that the virtual machine is running a supported Windows or Linux operating system and there's a link on the slide that points to a webpage where you can find a list of supported operating systems. Finally, you're going to want to make sure that the boot volume has several gigabytes of free space available. Now, in all honesty, the limit is a little bit lower for Linux virtual machines, but in any case, it's a good idea to make sure that there is plenty of free space available on the boot volume because when you perform the migration process, there are going to be drivers that are going to need to be installed on the virtual machine and there are a few other things that are going to have to happen behind the scenes, so it's important to have a bit of free space on the boot volume. So those are just a few things that you're going to need to do to prepare your virtual machine for migration.
