- [Instructor] When it comes to putting reliability into practice, you're going to have to make a decision. Are you working within a single region or are you working with multiple regions? How much time do you have to recover? Are you working with 99%, 99.9%? If you're working with 99% expectation of the application always being available, you are saying that you're okay with your app being down three days and 15 hours a year and you don't know when those three days and 15 hours are, and it's not maintenance work. This is unexpected downtime. So that's how you have to take a look at how are we going to build our design. Within a single region, I can have lots of reliability. We'll look at the single region and then we'll look at multi region. If it's a single region, you want two availability zones.
