- Before you can really do any kind of migration, you need to make sure that all of your data is ready for the migration process. And before I get into the different methods of data preparation, let me also suggest that a migration like this is a great time to clean things up. So if you have a database, particularly one that was built in house, and over the years there has been a lot of frustration with it. Maybe it's not designed well, maybe it has columns it doesn't even use or need, maybe it's missing columns it should have in some tables. This is a good time to think about updating and enhancing that application while you go through this migration process.
