- [Instructor] If you need communication across the internet, you're going to have to attach an internet gateway to your VPC that needs that access. Once that's done, there's still other tasks that you have to carry out. You're public subnets will also need to be associated with a route table that has a route that points to the internet gateway. Only then do you have communication across the internet. Instances with private IP addresses aren't going to be able to communicate with the internet gateway. Only instances with assigned public IP addresses. This is either a public IP address assigned from the pool of public IP addresses from AWS or an elastic IP address. They can communicate within internet gateway. The internet gateway itself providing that connection to the internet from a public subnet is actually a massive server farm hosted at AWS.
