- [Narrator] Maintaining infrastructure in the cloud means that we have to maintain a high level of security protecting our application stacks where our compute instances are residing. So we have to consider the networks that we're going to connect to. Are they public networks? Are they private networks? Are they both? Do I have to connect my data center privately to the Amazon cloud? Do I have a public facing SaaS application that requires public access? We have to define those needs. We then have to look at the systems hosted on each subnet. Systems at AWS are typically defined as an EC2 instance, a virtual server. Networks at AWS are really collections of subnets. So we have to define, are they public and private subnets. We then have to define the authorization to the infrastructure.
