- [Narrator] When you host applications at AWS, when you host databases at AWS, they're hosted in a virtual private cloud. Virtual private cloud, the simplest definition is a collection of subnets logically isolated to your AWS account. It's your networking layer, it's logically isolated as your own data center. And this is where we launch our EC2 instances, either on public or private subnets. And it's logically isolated from all other customers, all of their networks hosted at AWS. That's the most important job from Amazon's point of view to keep your stuff private. When I create a VPC, depending on the region that I create the VPC in, I have a variety, or a number of availability zones that I can use. My network can span all of the availability zones within the region that I select. Remember, an Availability Zone is containing at the very least at data center.
