Design security for EC2 with WAF
- [Instructor] The next security tool we're going to look at is the Web Application Firewall, or WAF, for, I like to call it EC2 Security, because that's usually how it ends up being applied, but there are some layers and middleware. So the idea with this is, it's a tool that can help to mitigate DDoS, or Distributed Denial of Service attacks, and what that is, if you're not familiar, it's when a public website is really pounded, basically, by traffic that's unexpected and it can actually be used to maliciously disrupt the service of a website. Sometimes it happens on accident as well. So the idea is it's kind of a firewall that filters out traffic that is deemed to be inappropriate, whether it's malicious or not. So the WAF tool works with load balancers and Amazon, both the newer application load balancers and the traditional network load balancers, or elastic load balancers and those are for EC2. It also works with CloudFront distributions, and CloudFront distributions serve up…
