Creating a billing alarm
- [Instructor] In addition to tracking the usage of your AWS resources, Amazon CloudWatch can also be used to monitor your estimated AWS charges. When enabled, the estimated charges are calculated and sent several times daily to CloudWatch as metric data. Billing metric data is stored in the US East North Virginia region. It includes estimated charges for every AWS service that you use from every region. CloudWatch can also be used to create a billing alarm. The alarm triggers when your account billing exceeds the threshold you specify. Before creating a billing alarm, you need to enable billing alerts. This allows you to monitor your estimated AWS charges and create an alarm using the billing metric data. To enable billing alerts, log into your AWS Console and click on the display name on the top right. Then click My Billing Dashboard.
