Cost allocation tags

- [Instructor] Tagging is a mechanism by which you can apply labels to AWS resources. A tag consists of a key or the name of the tag and a value. While tags can be used to organize resources, cost allocation tags can be used to track AWS costs. Once activated, AWS uses the cost allocation tags to organize your resource costs on the cost allocation report, making it easier to categorize and track your AWS costs. AWS provides two types of cost allocation tags. AWS-generated tags are defined, created, and applied by AWS. While user-defined tags are defined, created, and applied by the user. Both the tags must be activated separately from the billing and cost management console before they can appear on a cost allocation report. For example, on screen we have two EC2 instances that have AWS-generated and user-defined tags enabled. There are two user-defined tags, Cost Center and Department.
