Twenty years ago, one of the largest costs for businesses was their IT expenditure. Companies would spend millions of dollars on hardware, software, and people. Amazon was no different. So, what made Amazon unique? Leveraging the market of book-selling, Amazon was in the business of building technology to answer the problems of scale. Amazon was able to scale the bookseller's market by building a virtual bookstore that could bring all bookstores into one location.
