AWS Server Migration Service benefits

- [Instructor] So one of the big questions that often comes up is why would you use the AWS Server Migration Service to complete virtual machine migrations to the cloud, as opposed to using one of the other tools that's available? Well, there are any number of key benefits to the Server Migration Service. For one thing, it greatly simplifies the migration process. As we work through the remaining videos in this course, you're going to see what the migration process looks like. And it's relatively easy, especially compared to some of the third-party tools that exist. Another benefit is that existing virtual machines are left intact, so if something goes wrong with the migration process, you can still fall back on those virtual machines and use them just as you always have. This tool also allows you to test your migrations, and it's designed in a way that helps you to minimize downtime during the migration process. You're also able to simultaneously replicate up to 50 virtual machines to the Amazon cloud. And if, for whatever reason, you need to simultaneously replicate more than 50 virtual machines, you can contact Amazon for an increase in the limit. Finally, Amazon doesn't charge any additional fee for using this tool. You'll still incur the same fees that you're normally charged for accessing S3 storage Amazon EC2 instances. You'll also be charged the normal data transfer fees and that sort of thing. But there's no fee directly associated with the use of the Server Migration Service.
