The 3-2-1 rule
- [Presenter] One of the concepts that's often discussed with regard to backups is something called the 3-2-1 rule. The 3-2-1 rule has been around for what seems like forever. It essentially states that you need to have three copies of your data, and that the data should exist on two different types of media, and that at least one copy of the data should reside off-site. Now, let's talk about this just a little bit. The three copies of your data refer to your original data, that's your working data set that use every day, an on-premises backup copy, and an off-site backup copy. The next rule was that the data should exist on two different types of media. Now, as I mentioned at the very beginning, the 3-2-1 rule has been around for many, many, many years, and it predates the public cloud.
