If you have paid close attention to your lenses, you might have seen that all lenses have some distortion from geometric type distortion to chromatic aberration. In this movie, author Richard Harrington discusses how distortion is created and introduces how Sony’s Lens Distortion app from the PlayMemories store fixes distortion in camera.
- If you've ever really paid close attention to your lenses,…you might have noticed that all lenses…inherently have some distortion.…Maybe it's chromatic aberrration…which causes color fringe at the edges,…but more likely that you can easily see with the eye,…it's gonna be geometric-type distortion.…Now typically the wider the angle of the lens…the more that distortion is visible.…In this case, I want to shoot a wide field of view…inside of this old mill.…But we've got some strong vertical and diagonal lines.…
While this mill is old,…none of these really overhead lines are curved or bending.…We've got nice straight pieces of support beams…and arches and ledges and I want to keep those straight,…but I'm shooting with a 12 mm fisheye lens.…That's gonna lead to a lot of distortion.…Now a lot of folks will choose to fix it…using post-production tools.…After all, Adobe Camera Raw, LightRoom, Photoshop…all have tools to easily compensate for this.…And you might even find profiles…for certain camera and lens combinations…
