Let's take a look at the Prototype methods for manipulating element content.…In this table, I have listed the methods that Prototype provides for…manipulating the contents of elements.…So you can see that there is about seven or eight or so of these, and we'll just…go and take a quick look at each one.…The first one, cleanWhiteSpace, removes all the child text nodes from the element…if they only contain whitespace.…It's a nice little convenience method for cleaning up the content of element text.…
The next few methods are the ones that do the real work.…The remove method removes the element that it's called on from the document. It's just gone.…The replace function replaces the entire element that it's called on with the new content.…So for example, if you call it on a paragraph tag, then the entire tag is…replaced, including the paragraph tag delimiters.…The update function, on the other hand, updates only the contents of the…element with new content.…So if you call update on an element, only the contents inside that element are updated.…
