From the course: Motion Graphics for Video Editors: Working with 3D Objects

What you'll learn in this class

- Hi, my name's Rich Harrington, and we're going to continue our look at Motion Graphics for Video Editors, this time exploring working with 3D objects. Now, I put this course together to help those of you who feel less comfortable with 3D really still take advantage of 3D files. You see, a lot of times as a video editor, other people are going to be making 3D objects. Maybe it's an animator or a motion graphics person. But sometimes you're going to need to know how to modify these files, or perhaps work with a stock image. So, the goal today is to take a lightweight look at how to use these tools. As such, we're going to dip into different programs, things like Premier Pro, After Effects and Photoshop. Primarily, Photoshop and After Effects, which are tools that are pretty ubiquitous and then I'll show you the hand off process to an NLE. I'll use Premier Pro just because it's in the Adobe Suite, but the techniques I show you will work with all NLE's, including Final Cut Pro X, Avid, Sony Vegas and really any other tool. Now, this is not a full-blown animation course, but merely a taste test of what's possible with 3D. I'll give you some simple things that you can do, including using existing files, manipulating them, changing colors and positioning objects to create graphics that are usable to a video editor. And if this increases your appetite, remember that there's a bunch of stuff here on Lynda.com. We can fully explore 3D applications like Cinema 4D or other tools that are going to help you out with your workflow. Alright, with this in mind, why don't we jump in?
