What are vector graphics, and when should you use them?

- The natural companion to a raster graphic is a vector graphic. This uses mathematical curves and things like gradient fills or color fills to create shapes or objects. Most things like text tend to originally start as a vector element. But there are lots of other types of traditional illustration that works with vectors as well. Let's go back to Adobe Bridge and I'll go up a level in the last folder. You'll see across the top is the tree that you've been using to navigate. So I can go from folder one dot two back to the parent one Core Technology. And I'll go the folder one dash three for vectors. In here, we've got two files. A Photoshop document which is actually a raster graphic and the vector graphic here. Let's open up both. I'll double-click the one here in Photoshop and I'll go back to Bridge and double-click on the dot ai or Adobe Illustrator file. This should launch Adobe Illustrator on your computer.
