What is After Effects?

Adobe After Effects CS5 is the professional standard for motion graphics, compositing, and visual effects for video. Anyone from visual effects artists to motion graphics artists to animators to compositors can find tools to create stunning results with this powerful tool. Designers can work with practically any element: video, audio, still images, or Adobe Illustrator and can manipulate these objects in either 2D or 3D space. The 3D world in After Effects comes complete with simulations of real lights and cameras.

These lights and cameras add a huge dimension of reality to your 3D environments, giving you control over real world properties such as light falloff, shadows, and even depth of field. And by using Advanced techniques, such as the Roto Brush feature, you can grab just the part of the layer you want and combine, or in other words composite it, with a new background. After Effects CS5 also includes the powerful Keylight plug-in which allows you to remove a greenscreen background, giving you the freedom to put a subject in any location imaginable.

Realistic effects are commonplace in After Effects, allowing you to create such things as lightning and lens flares at the click of a button. Powerful color adjustment tools can help you make your footage far more interesting, like the kind of thing you'd see in the movies. By utilizing these features, any animator or designer can give their clients a more visually engaging experience. After Effects can also be a part of the nonlinear workflow, producing complex animation and video effects for broadcast, film or the web. After Effects is also one of the industry's most powerful and easy-to-use animation tools.

Its tools for animating characters, specifically, are remarkable. One of the next generation tools for animating characters in After Effects is the Puppet tool, which allows you to take a single, flat, 2D layer and organically bend it as if you were controlling it like a puppet. There are also a host of other helpful animations tools as well, including the ability to link objects, a programming language called Expressions and a graph editor that gives you maximum control for lifelike animation. Because After Effects is so ubiquitous, you'll find it has the ability to perform many visual tricks that you'll recognize from your favorite t.v.

shows and commercials. These effects are created with brilliant tools, such as motion tracking, which allows you to have objects move along with other object in your scene, and its painting tools, which allow you to remove objects from a scene or create growing vines. After Effects also gives you total control over how text comes to life. It is the industry standard choice for creating engaging titles. Not only can you create and edit text, but you can apply stylistic effects to text and animate text characters in an infinite combination of possibilities.

When you need to combine layers, After Effects has all the tools you need. You can create masks to remove portions of layers. You can use other layers as masks. You can also control how one layer blends into another. The sky is the limit. With all of its many features, After Effects CS5 has the tools you need to take your videos to the next level, from raw footage to final delivery.
