- Hi, my name's Rich Harrington. Welcome to this course on learning how to render faster inside of After Effects and get the maximum performance while working. This is a part of our After Effects Guru series. Be sure to check out some of the other courses in the series to get advanced knowledge. Today we're going to focus on a lot of key factors that essentially give you faster previews and help you beat the render queue. What it comes down to is really learning how to work inside of After Effects. To start things off, we'll talk about render settings, what sort of things you need to do to queue up your projects for proper output, making sure that the right quality is being processed, and then choosing the file formats that are then generated. I'll also show you another way to work with Adobe Media Encoder, which allows you to do background rendering, essentially submitting the jobs to Adobe Media Encoder, a companion app, letting them process, and then you can return to After Effects and keep working. Then we'll talk about controlling the memory inside of your computer, how much is allocated to Adobe apps, how to free up more memory, and how to get the best performance by making sure your computer is not starved. Then, we'll move onto talking about the disk and media cache folders. This essentially allows After Effects to take advantage of your hard drive for increased performance, whether it's previewed frames, or optimized media, to make it easier to work. We'll also talk about some strategies for previewing. You don't actually have to preview everything that's on the screen at once. You can decide to preview only a short section of a composition, or even a partial area on screen, so you can see just that. Additionally, you can also adjust the resolution of the preview, which can help you see things more quickly. I'll then share with you some strategies to cut down on your total render time. There are things you can do with your project and your assets to speed things up, so you can get files out more quickly. Finally, if you're working in a multi-machine environment, and you have a network, I'll give you the basic workflow for doing a network render. This allows you to use multiple machines within the same environment to tackle the same After Effects project, essentially allowing you to put multiple hands on the job. We've to a lot of ground to cover. So, let's go ahead and jump in, and start to explore strategies, so you can get your previews done more quickly, and your renders out faster.
