Veteran After Effects user Chris Meyer gets you up to speed quickly with the new features in After Effects CS6, including 3D camera tracking and the new 3D rendering engine for ray-traced 3D rendering
(upbeat music) - Hi, I'm Chris Meyer of Crish Design, and I'd like to show you how to take advantage of some of the most important new features included in After Effects CS6. Now, after they released CS5 the Adobe After Effects team actually split into two parts. One part of the team had 12 months to work on the new features that were included in CS5.5, such as improvements of 3D lights, some new menu commands for the camera, a new stereo camera rig, warp stabilizer, et cetera, while the other part of the team had 24 months to work on some really big features that made their way into CS6.
Some of these features include the Global Performance Cache, which gives you some significant speed improvements by remembering work you've done previously, so you don't have to keep re-rendering your previews; a brand-new ray-traced 3D renderer that allows you to extrude and bevel objects which supports transparency and reflections; a new 3D camera tracker that allows you to track a piece of 2D footage and re-create where the camera was, as well as other objects in the scene; variable-width mask feathering; rolling shutter repair; and a bunch of other small but very nice new features, such as better integration with Mocha, more CycoreFX, et cetera.
Now my goal in this course is to help you get up to speed quickly with these new features and give you some ideas of how you might put them to use on your own projects. However, if you like, you can follow along with your own source material, or if you have a copy of our book, Creating Motion Graphics, 5th Edition, I'll be opening up a few compositions and using some source files out of those projects. Also, there are some cases where I need some new footage to show you some new features. I'll include that with the files you can download along with this course. But anyway, enough talking.
