Utilizing contrast to enhance effects shots

- [Instructor] Many FX shots, including almost deal with light. Let's look at the importance of contrast. And to do that I'd first like you to think Some cars will have like daytime headlights on, but a few others will have their full headlights on. And it's easy to not even notice. But then think about those same headlights on a dark night in the middle of nowhere. but the contrast in the environment did. That's a very important thing to be aware of when creating visual effects. because the clouds were bright and the ball was bright. So the ball didn't seem amazing. I need the ball brighter and brighter, but it just doesn't get any brighter than white, and then we lose the blue tint. The secret of course is to get the ball The secret of course is to get the ball where it needs to be and then adjust the surroundings where it needs to be and then adjust the surroundings to be darker until the ball looks right. So for the finale sequence for example, So for the finale sequence for example, I placed a dark solid behind everything I placed a dark solid behind everything as like a base. as like a base. And also I tried to arrange the clouds so that a dark patch would be behind the ball as well. And this is kind of a common principle we see And this is kind of a common principle we see throughout film making. In order to make shadows seem darker In order to make shadows seem darker we can brighten the highlight. In order to make the protagonist seem more determined, In order to make the protagonist seem more determined, we could make the antagonist more ruthless. So remember as your working with visual effects, So remember as your working with visual effects, it's not just about the effect itself, but how it contrasts with it's environment. Next we'll look at another critical concept Next we'll look at another critical concept when creating light effects.
