Join Ian Robinson for an in-depth discussion in this video Software used in this course, part of Mograph Techniques: Fractured 3D Type.
Now before I jump into the details about the software that I use, I figured we'd start in the project, that way you could see the different areas that I've built using these different tools. So if we scrub through, you can see that I have this 3D type. Now I modeled the type in Maxon Cinema 4D, and obviously, created the background, and everything, the composite Here in Adobe AfterEffects. Now when the text shatters, I used a free plugin called Thrausi. I'll show you where you can download that in a quick second.
Now these glows I created using a Trapcode plugin called Starglow. And the smoke billowing around the outside of the text, that was created using Trapcode particular. These are red giant plugins. Now the rest of the animation here was created in Cinema 4D and in After Effects. So let's jump over to my web browser really quickly, and we'll start with the Red Giant plug ins. If you go to redgiant.com and go to products, click on Trapcode suite.
That'll take you to this page. And here, if you don't currently have the Trapcode suite, you can definitely click Try to download it. I highly recommend this suite, it's used in a ton of motion graphics spots. Now, if you don't have the full version of Maxon Cinema 4D, definitely go to Maxon.net and under the products, go down and download the demo version. And of course, if you'd like to check out AfterEffects and you don't have it on your system, go to adobe.com, or become a member of Creative Cloud.
You could download it from there and then that shatter effect was with the text. I love this plug-in, it's free, it's from nitro4d; if you go to nitro4d.com, it's under Freebie and you just go down to Thrausi. Now, obviously when you're here, I recommend checking out some of the other cool plugins that they make. But like I said, for this specific project I use Thrausi and Its a freebie you can download from their website. Now I know that might seem like a lot of stuff, but you have to understand when you have all these tools, you can create cool, fun projects like this.
- Modeling type in CINEMA 4D
- Building fractured letters with the Thrausi plugin
- Creating dynamic camera moves
- Refining animation with MoDynamics, force, gravity & collisions
- Adding lighting, glows, and reflections
- Creating smoke with particles
