Join Chris Meyer for an in-depth discussion in this video Replacing the hero's placeholder, part of After Effects Apprentice: 16 Creating a Medical Opening Title.
Okay, here is the payoff and the reason we created placeholders first.…Go back to your project panel, select the Hero + Tile comp you've been creating,…bring forward your Final Comp, select that Hero shot that is currently just a…solid placeholder, then hold Cmd+Opt on Mac or Ctrl+Alt on Windows…and press the forward slash key, that replaces the selected layer in the…timeline with the selected layer in the project panel.…And you'll see that the yellow layer has been replaced with our end video and title.…
If I drag my current time indicator through here, you'll see it's picked up the…camera's animation and we land perfectly centered on that piece of video.…I think I'll just do a quick RAM preview here, B to start my work area before…the Hero enters and to end it just after that, I'll keep a RAM preview …and I might jump a little bit forward in time so you don't have to watch this whole render, …we'll just see when it's done.…(music playing)…Pretty nice and if you want to see it in full resolution, I'll go to 1 View, preview again.…
