- I'm guessing that most of you know how to use Displacement Map effect. Like other compound effects in the program, you'll need to fill it with pixels of another layer in order to create displacement for the source layer. The Time Displacement effect, on the other hand, distorts the image by shifting pixels across time. So the value, usually a grayscale map, is used in order to determine the areas in the frame that are going to be taken from the other time in the same footage. You can produce a wide variety of effects using this technique. For example, the traditional splitcam effect, which captures different stages of a moving image across time, can be simulated using this effect.
