Preparing a blur map
- To fake a rack focus effect in post, we will use a compound effect named Camera Lens Blur. Now this effect can work on its own to create a realistic lens blur look, but you can really make it shine if you are using an appropriate blur map that can help to tell the effect where it needs to keep the focus sharp and where to apply its blurriness. In this movie, I'll show you how to prepare this map and we will use the result in the following movie to complete the effect. So I'm going to start by selecting the base guitar layer which is our video background. I'm going to duplicate another copy. Then I'm going to go to the layer menu and choose precompose. I'm going to name this composition Blur Map, because this is what is going to be, I'm going to move all the attributes and I'm also going to open this composition because I want to work inside it. Let's click okay and since I know that I'm using this base guitar video just as a reference, meaning I don't need it to show in the result…
