Pixel Motion Blur

- This hidden gem is about the relatively new Pixel Motion Blur effect. It adds motion blur to footage that did not have it originally. I'm going to show you two cases where it can help you, natural footage and 3D renders, and an example of where it's not going to help you. Let's start with the natural footage. This shot is of a hummingbird visiting a feeder is very bright sunlight. Someone left the camera on auto and as a result it has a very short shutter duration. The rule of thumb is you like to have a shutter duration that is roughly one half of your frame rate or frame duration. That will give you the classic Filmic look. But since we can actually see the hummingbird's wings flap here, the shutter's way too fast. Obviously it would be hard to reshoot this because it was just luck to catch this guy.
