As you move from Adobe Photoshop to Adobe After Effects, keeping your Photoshop project organized can come in very handy. This allows for After Effects to view your layers well so you can easily animate them. In this movie, author Richard Harrington discusses how to organize layers with groups and smart objects in Photoshop.
- While the alignment commands are quite useful…to align objects to one another,…they don't really allow you to align…things to the canvas.…But fortunately, by using groups you can…make global decisions that influence…multiple objects at once.…For example, let's go back here and work…with some of the things we did last.…In this case, I want to merge these together.…So if you have an empty layer here, like I do, and I select…multiple objects, with that top layer selected I can hold…down the ALT key and choose Merge Visible.…
Now you'll notice that it merged everything…that was visible to the one flattened layer,…including the background, and perhaps…that's what you wanted, essentially a flattened graphic…mixed in.…If you didn't, you can then just…disable different layers.…Now, let's try that again here.…In this case, I've got the left hand…and the right hand< and I want to…align those properly to the background.…Well, with both layers selected I could press Ctrl,…or Command G for group, and it puts them…into a folder.…
