There's one last trick I want to show you and then, we're done with this course. …And this one's borrowed from another wonderful After Effects user, this time …by the name of Angie Taylor. Angie creates a lot of really fun …character and cel type animations using After Effects. …And one of the things that she likes to do to get a human element into the …animation is to do what's called motion sketching, where you get to move the …mouse in time with music in your head or music in your ear playing back from After …Effects, and After Effects will create keyframes for you matching your movements …in the comp panel. There is a window for motion sketch where …you get to sketch out, say, the position for a layer.…
But there's another fun thing inside of After Effects called the puppet tool …where you get to warp and animate objects. …I have a fun piece of music here. …(MUSIC). …Kind of a toe tapping piece of music, one that we started this course with. …And we have this marionette, which already has an alpha channel to it. …
In this course, Chris Meyer teaches you how to "read" an audio waveform to spot the most interesting points to animate to, and then presents a variety of ideas for cutting video and animating movements to match your soundtrack. This includes timing transitions, making staccato cuts, matching the frame rate to the tempo, wiggling in time, expressing animations to sound, motion sketching to music, and more. Although these tricks will be demonstrated inside Adobe After Effects, the techniques themselves are applicable to virtually any editing or animation package.
This course was created and produced by Chris and Trish Meyer. We are honored to host this content in our library.
