- [Narrator] Finally, let's have at Gestalt. Gestalt theory is studied in many graphic design courses. Gestalt is a German school of psychology concerned with how the human brain organizes thoughts and processes to solve problems. They propose that the human brain is naturally inclined to group items, and to see and describe them as single objects. The brain will look for things that connect objects or shapes to each other, and when we do this we form new shapes in our mind that are a sum of individual parts. There are four basic principles to explain how we do this. The first is emergence. This is where the human brain forms an object from a pattern. We do this as children when we look for faces or animals in cloud formations. Here we see another example of emergence used deliberately in an image. The tiger's not obvious at first, but emerges from the image. The next principle of Gestalt is reification. This happens when our brain creates shape from negative space. In the egg and…
