Join Lee Lanier for an in-depth discussion in this video Finalizing the ship and camera animation, part of VFX Techniques: Space Scene 01: Maya Animation and Dynamic Simulation.
…We're waiting for last phase of the animation and that is…to inmate the ship at the very end of the timeline.…Right now the ship flies in, stops and doesn't move.…Camera moves, but not the ship.…I'm going to select the ship as a…hierarchy, and then select Keyframe to frame 80.…We've discussed how the ship is going to fire a missile at the asteroid and…then eventually fly off.…So that's at frame 80, that's the frame right before it fires it's gun.…
So let's zoom in here into the working camera and just move…the ship a little bit forward so it's not just static there.…Now, one trick is moving this to double click the Move tool to get the option box.…And change from World, which is the normal default axis orientation to object.…Which aligns…the axis with the ship in this case and that makes more sense.…So, I'll move this a bit forward and maybe rotate…it toward the asteroid, as if it's looking at it.…And then key that at frame 80.…Now since I've added a new keyframe at the end here, I need to…make sure that the animation between 70 and 80 makes sense and it works.…
