Effects instancing

- Some of our favorite gems, are ones that allow us to accomodate client changes much faster, particularly if we have repetitive tasks that appears multiple times throughout a project. We'd love it if we could only change it once, to accommodate the client's latest change, and for it to ripple throughout our project. Well, one tool in After Effects that allows you to do that, is called Effects Instancing. It allows you to take one or more effects, do a very special copy of them, paste them to another layer in the same composition or in a different composition, and not only get those effects pasted, but also have expressions that tie all the parameters back to the one you originally copied. That way, whenever you change the first one, all of the others will also change to follow. Let me demonstrate that. In this case, I have some text for lower third, and it has a very common combination of Fill to change the color, Bevel Alpha to give a little bit of dimension, and Drop Shadow to lift…
