Creating normal maps for detailed 3D modeling

- Now, we've already covered the concept of bump maps, which is a black and white image used to simulate geometry on a 3D model. In this video, we're going to explore the idea of normal maps, which is a colorful image, like red, green, and blue. These colors will actually create very detailed geometry on your 3D models. The advantage of using normal maps is the fact that it allows you to add these details to your models, without having to jack up the polygon count. You can actually generate these maps from within Photoshop, so let's get started. Once again, we're looking at our custom, seamless texture that we created a little earlier in this course. Now, instead of saving a bump map, I wanna save what's called a "normal map". Normal maps are bump maps on steroids, basically. They take the distortion and actually extrude it on X, Y and Z, and it uses red, green, and blue to create that distortion.
