- If you ever need to map a graphic element into a video background, the use of an environment map can definitely make your life a lot easier. In this video I'm going to show you exactly what an environment map is, and we're going to build multiple environment maps that we can use in the videos throughout the rest of this chapter. So you've created some 3D text, and it's sitting in this environment, but it's not really taking on any of the environment around it. It's not really blending in or reflecting any of these elements. That's why you need an environment map. Now I'm going to show you an app that I like to use that's pretty cool and it captures 360 degrees all the way around you. Now, earlier I went out and captured this scene. So it's this app here called 360. And if I go ahead and launch it, you see 360 launches and then I point it at the horizon (repetitive camera clicks) or the brightest part of the scene.
