- [Voiceover] Now that our matte pass is rendered,…let's import it to our assets folder.…Hit Ctrl+I to import or select the first frame.…Make sure that the png sequence is checked and hit input.…We'll hit Ctrl+Alt+G to integrate the footage.…First of all, we want to make sure that…our sequence is 25 fps. In my case it is.…If it isn't in your case, make sure that it is…set to the correct frame rate.…
Now, second of all, we need to address the…alpha section in the top of our window.…By default, it's set to straight unmatted.…If you are not sure which option to select here,…we need to select guess.…After Effects has started to pre multiply,…we'll hit okay.…Now, let's drop it in our scene.…Here we can hide the volcano matte layer.…Now, as we said, we want to get rid of the black,…so we will be able to matte the lava.…
To do that, we are going to use the unmult plug-in.…If you are not familiar with the unmult plug-in,…it does one thing and one thing only,…and that is knocking out all the black pixels in the layer.…Now the unmult plug-in is a free plug-in…

5/11/2016In this course, you'll learn to take advantage of these powerful features. The first half of this course uses AE as if it were true 3D software, producing a unique 3D landscape—a volcano spouting fire and brimstone—rendered into several image sequence passes. In the second half, author Ran Ben Avraham shows how to use AE's powerful compositing abilities to combine the render passes, add environment particles, build 3D text, and use a few post-production tricks to produce this "volcanic" scene.
Like all of our project-based learning experiences, each step of the process is rich with object lessons that are applicable to scenarios the motion design artist will face in real-world productions.
