Join Lee Lanier for an in-depth discussion in this video Converting shards into active rigid bodies, part of VFX Techniques: Space Scene 01: Maya Animation and Dynamic Simulation.
…We're back to our main scene.…This is scene 5-4, where we hand-animated…the chunks of the asteroid flying through space.…Let's take a look and see where I wound up with that.…There they go.…So they're flying off in five different directions.…Each has its own unique rotation.…And they hit the edge of frame around 120 or so.…Now it's still using the static…camera so let's look at that.…Again, this is using the 250 millimeter lens.…We'll take a look at the transform node…and see where it wound up.…
It's at 440, 422, 694 with some rotation, maybe 28, 27, negative six or so.…Now, your camera does not have to be exactly in the same space.…As long as, the asteroid looks like it's about…right here, with a nice gap around the edges.…All right, so now we're ready to, bring in…the high resolution shatter we did in the separate file.…And a good…way to do that is to import.…So File > Import, I'm going to look at the option box on that.…There's a really good option to use here, which is the very last radio button.…
