Converting masks to shapes

- Shape layers in After Effects are one of the most flexible tools. They have unique design and animation features, and they can be extruded using the Ray-tracer 3D renderer. Shapes are also very fast to calculate and take minimal amount of space in terms of megabytes in your project panel. In fact, they don't even appear in the project panel, just on the timeline. So there's a good chance that you'll want to convert between other vector kinds, such as text and masks, to shapes. The good news is that you an easily convert text to shapes as well as vector files, such as EPS or PDF and of course Illustrator vector files. We've seen examples for all of these in previous movies. But when it comes to convert between existing masks and shapes, there's no automatic menu command. And it takes few manual steps in order to complete this mission.
