Converting a blur effect to a depth matte

- You saw me do this once before, but let me walk you through the steps to turn a blur effect into a depth matte. The depth matte can be handed off to After Effects. In this case, I've got a file here called, Seattle. Go ahead and open that up, and I've got a bit of a blur here. Now, you can see that it's already been applied, and if you look at the Channels, there's the Blur that was made. And you can see it's a combination. Well, let's build this from scratch for a second. File > Open. If you have an image, you can work with it. And then take advantage of the Blur Gallery. In this case, it was a combination. First, an Iris Blur to create a bit of an edge. And then, a little bit of Field Blurring to add additional control points. These effects will concatenate as they mix together. So, you can dial in different intensities of blurs along the edges to create an area that's in focus and parts that are not. There we go.
