- [Instructor] The most common hurdle getting started with After Effects is opening the application and not knowing where to start. This is a common problem. As an InDesigner, and I hope you don't mind me calling you that, you have a key advantage as it could be argued that the fundamental workflow behind After Effects is more like InDesign than Photoshop or Illustrator. And I'm talking structurally here. In this lesson, I'll explain why as we start from scratch, building up what's called a composition. Now the home panel of After Effects is not all that helpful to getting started. So I'm going to actually go ahead and close it. There aren't even templates here. Instead, when we go to the user interface there's still not an obvious starting point but at least there's this large composition panel with these two buttons that show me they're interactive.
