Choosing the right drive for your cache

- While RAM is gonna be the juice that powers After Effects, remember, a lot of times you're gonna run out of RAM and that's why you're gonna rely upon that performance disk cache but that disk cache is going to take up space on your hard drive. Now, this isn't a big deal but I recommend that you really pay attention to where that disk cache is going. So, let's bring that back up, Edit, Preferences, Media and Disk Cache. Remember, this is the option to use hard drive space for that cache. By default it's likely writing to your user library or the app data as a temporary file. You have the ability to lower this here so it doesn't take up as much space particularly if you're working on a laptop with less room but you can also click the Choose Folder here and navigate to another drive. What type of drive? Well, ultimately that's up to you. Some people will target something like a SSD drive if they can have a second drive in their system.
