You may already know I can be a bit of nerd when it comes to color and compositing. Sometimes when I really want to understand something, I make myself a little test. Here, I'll use a simple gray scale gradient and the curves effect to transform this gray scale image into a full color rainbow spectrum. Now, it turns out this simple exercise lets me show you each of the fundamental ways I use curves. And it allows me to begin a deeper discussion of how those color channels interrelate, and what it means to make an area of an image warmer or cooler. Let me reset to begin this lesson. The curves control is unique and that it has its own keyboard shortcuts. Cmd+1, 2, or 3 changes the color channel that I'm on to correspond with the three color channels that you can also view individually in the Compure viewer.
